Every successful artistic endeavour, which relies on its audiences for survival, needs to do three things, celebrate its past, enjoy its present state and perhaps most importantly look ahead to where it might be in 20 years time.

For that it needs visionary players, composers and conductors and in the young tenor horn star, Jonny Bates, it’s got all three.

He’s a founding member of the award winning brass quartet, A4, which is taking brass music into exciting new directions. As a composer and conductor his mantra is to break new ground in the brass band world whilst not forgetting its heritage and as a player he’s determined to push his instrument into new territory.
