"Hello I’m Frank Renton introducing this week's music podcast.

Band pads are littered with arrangements of pop tunes that must have seemed like a good idea at the time, but either the band or the drummers in particular struggled to get the right feel, or the conductor or arranger simply missed the point.

No such problems in this week’s music podcast as a celebratory Canadian Brass breathe new life into the piccolo glory of Penny Lane, Cory reimagine a Britpop classic by The Verve and Black Dyke’s Yellow Submarine give us an excuse to relive perhaps one of banding’s finest hours.

We have a true flag waver of a piece recorded and forever associated with Grimethorpe and my old friend Alan Morrison adds his classy playing, as they all show us the way it should happen. We’ve only just begun…!

It’s an edition with a difference, so join me for this week’s singalong ‘Brass Goes Pop’ Music Podcast."
