Any programme of brass bands playing classical music will stand or fall on the quality of the arrangements and this special edition definitely stands tall.
Just listen as Howard Snell reimagines Ravel’s music to a degree that starts to suggest that it was originally intended for the brass band. Of course, you also get music by genius composers such as Prokofiev, Saint-Saëns and Verdi, music which has more than stood the test of time.
It’s also a great excuse for some Brassed Off nostalgia and gives us the chance to visit the archives for one of the famous massed bands events of the past, conducted by a true brass legend, Harry Mortimer.
