TRACK OF THE WEEK

Every week Frank selects his own favourite track of the week from our weekly Music Podcast, and it's completely free to listen too, here on Frank Renton on Brass. As he says this week,

"A new release from Philip Cobb, principal trumpet with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and still one of the finest cornet players in the world is always a reason for great joy.

Philip is not only a fine player, but a fine musician too, with a seemingly natural ability to get to the core of anything that he plays. That might be as a result of his being the fourth generation of fine cornet players in the Cobb family, it’s all in the genes as they say, but when playing the cornet and playing the Salvationist repertoire that’s his heritage, it seems there is a real emotional understanding of the music and its message, and that’s gold dust.

Philip’s new album is titled Love Songs and is a collection of melodies written by past and current Salvationist composers and he is accompanied by the International Staff Band of the Salvation Army, conducted by his father Stephen.

Track of the Week, written by Andrew Blyth, is Philip Cobb playing A Lyric of Hope, here on Frank Renton on Brass."

We hope you’ll enjoy our free track of the week that's below - and then will join us to hear all our many programmes, interviews and music podcasts. It’s a lot less than a cup of coffee a week!
