Every week Frank selects his own favourite track of the week from our weekly Music Podcast, and it's completely free here on Frank Renton on Brass.

"In 2007, the teacher and conductor Michael Robertson began bringing young people from around the county of Angus together to form the Carnoustie and District Youth Brass Band.

The results were immediate and quite staggering as the band produced a stream of high quality young players and the band went from strength to strength. They first came to my personal notice in 2012 when a young tuba player from the band, Ross Knight, won the BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Award in a programme which I presented live on Radio 2. He’s now principal tuba of the Orchestra of the Suisse Romande in Geneva.

A year later it was the turn of bass trombonist Josiah Walters who completely captivated the audience, and the judges, with a performance of music from a Concerto for Bass Trombone by Chris Brubeck, son of the famous pianist and composer Dave Brubeck. The jazz background of the composer is obvious in the music but Josiah encompassed all the musical and technical problems with an ease and maturity that belied his years.

So here is Josiah Walters with the Carnoustie and District Youth Brass Band conducted by Mike Robertson, playing James Brown in the Twilight Zone.
